4、rencesystemFISisusedAvailableonline8September2009asanalternativeapproachtoqualitativeriskmatrixtechniquescurrentlyusedinmanyindustriesandbyshipclassificationsocieties.Twoapproachesforfuzzyinferenceareadopted.TheseincludetheMamdaniKeywords:approachinwhichoutputriskvaluesarefuzzysetsandtheSugen

5、omethodoffuzzyinference,inwhichMultipleattributeRiskassessmentoutputriskvaluesareconstantorlinear.FuzzysetsTheuseofafuzzysetapproachisparticularlysuitedforhandlingmultipleattributeriskproblemswithFuzzyinferencesystemimprecisedata.Itimprovesuponexistingqualitativemethodsandallowstherankingofri

6、skalternativesLNGshipsbasedonaunifiedfuzzyriskindexmeasure.ResultsshowthatwhiletheMamdanimethodisintuitiveLNGterminalsandwellsuitedtohumaninput,theSugenomethodiscomputationallymoreefficientandguaranteescontinuityofthefinalriskoutputsurface.Resultsalsoshowthatcomputedriskvaluesusingafuzzyriski
