3、nalandflexuralmodeswereobserved.TheircharacteristicsaredescribedandtheimplicationsforAEsourcelocationarediscussedaswell.Severaltransducers,commonlyusedforacousticemissionmeasurements,arecomparedwithregardtotheirabilitytoreproducethecharacteristicshapesofplatewaves.Theirdifferentresponsessho

5、surements,thesensorgeometricallyplatelike.Thatis,thethicknessismuchpositionisoftendeterminedbytestfixturingorothercon-smallerthantheothertwodimensions.Consideringonlystraints,anditisusuallynotthecasethatthesourcepositionlinearlyelasticdisplacements,awayfromthesourcetheisknowninadvance.Theco
6、mputationsinvolvedforoffepi-propagatingwaveswillbegovernedbyLamb'shomoge-centermeasurementsareverytimeconsumingevenforiso-neousequation,thesolutionstowhicharecalledLambtropicmaterials.Thus,itmaybesometimebeforethisap-waves.Inthelimitwhenthewavelengthismuchlargerthanproachcanbefullyexploited
