4、showtheaccordanceofthepredictingresultswiththefieldmeasureddata.ItisalsogivenfromthecasestudythatthevalueofEu/Curatiorangesfrom50to100forJiangsuMarineclayanditsactualcoefficientofconsolidationisalmostoneorderofmagnitudelargerthanthelaboratorydata.Keywords:settlement,emb

6、mbehavioroftheembankmentroutinelysubjectedtodesignanalysisisthesettlement.Inotherwords,thesettlementanalysisisthemostappropriateapproachtotheembankmentanalysis.Thesettlementsofembankmentsonsoftclaysresultfromtheconsolidationandthelateralflowundertheembankments.Manyresea
7、rcheshavebeenmadeonperformanceofembankmentsonsoftground.Althoughmanyexperienceshaveshownthepracticalvalueofthetheoryforestimatingsettlementsandsettlementsrates,theyalsoillustratedsomeoftheproblemsinvolvedinmaking12accuratepredictionofthesettlement.Duncan(1993)andOlson(1
8、998)analyzedtheuncertaintiescausingtheshortcomingsinthecurrentstateoftheartforsettlementpredictionrespectively
