2、reportistheproductofasix-monthprojectdesignedtohelptheLibrariesdevelopandprovidethebestpossiblereferenceservicesfortheMITcommunity.Byimaginingafutureofwhatreferencemightbe--giventechnology,userbehaviorandpreferences,andstaffinsights--weintendtoprovided
3、irectionforcurrentandfutureplanning.Pilotprojectsandexperiments,appropriatelyassessed,willhelpusdeterminewhichdirectionsandideasprovidedbythisvisionareappropriate.Weassumethatthevisionwillevolveaswelearnfromourongoingandfutureactivities.Thereferencevis
4、ionisbasedonasetofvaluesderivedfromtheuserandstaffinputgatheredduringthisproject.Implementationeffortsalsoneedtobeinkeepingwiththesevalues.MinorchangestothedraftofthevisionweremadebasedoninputreceivedbytheTaskForcesincetheinitialdraftwasdisseminated.Ma
5、nycommentshavebeenmadeinsupportofthevision,butithasalsogeneratedconcerns.Mostconcernsaboutthevisioncenteronhowitwouldbeimplementedanditseffectonotherlibraryareas.Ifwearetobe“…theplacepeopleintheMITcommunitythinkoffirstwhentheyneedinformation,”MITLibrar

7、ce.Webelievebothofthesecharacteristicstobepositive.Althoughtheinitialscopeofthisprojectspecifiedincludinganimplementationplan,thetaskforcebelievesimplementationstrategiesareoutsideourpurview.Werecommendbuildingthenecessarytrust,understanding,andsupport
