3、hallgoverntheparties’contractualrelationship.Therighttochoosesubstantivelawisoftenreferredtoaspartyautonomy.Mostpartiesenteringintoarbitrationagreementsbelievethatonceachoiceoflawismade,thatlawexclusivelydeterminesthelegalframeworkbetweentheparties.However,thisoverlooksthefact
4、thatcircumstancesremaininwhichanarbitratorwillberequiredtoapplyrulesarisingfromalegalregimeotherthantheonechosenbytheparties.Thereexistinfactnumerousofrestrictionswhichindifferentwayslimitstheparties′choiceoflaw.Thisthesisisanattempttopresentausefulandefficientmethodwhenidenti
5、fyingwhichrestrictionstheparties’choiceoflawmightbesubjectto.PartIpointsoutthebasicsofinternationalcommercialarbitrationandpresentsanoverviewoftheprincipleofpartyautonomyinthecontextofapplicablesubstantivelaw.PartIIshowsthatpartyautonomyisaconflictrulewhichintheeventofaconflic
