2、troducedanewsystemofbusinessaccountingin1993.Thenewsystemdepartssubstantiallyfrompreviousaccountingsystemsdominatedbyrule-basedaccountingregula-tions,andischaracterizedbytheadoptionofaccountingstandardsinChina.AccountingStandardsforBusinessEnterprisesandthirteennewindustry-speci?caccountingregulat
3、ions(systems)havebeenenactedsincethen.Effortscontinuetoformulateandenforceasetofmoredetailedapracticalaccountingstandards.oSigni?cantchangeshavethustakenplaceinChineseaccounting.Thispaperreportstheresultsofasurveystudytoevaluatetheeffectsofthenewaccountingsystem.Thestudyresultsrevealthatthestakeho
4、ldersofbusinessaccountinginChina(includingusersandprovidersofaccountinginformation)generallyagreedthatthenewaccountingsystemhasledtosubstantialimprovementintheunderstandability,comparability,anddecisionusefulnessofaccount-inginformationproducedbyChineseenterprises.However,theyarestronglysupportive
5、offurtheradoptionoftheinternationallyacceptedaccountingprinciplesandproceduresinChineseaccounting.Inaddition,thisstudydemonstratestherespondents'supportforreducingafreechoiceoofaccountingalternativesinaccountingstandardsandtheirperceptionoftheoptimalmodelofaccountingstandardsettingandenforcementin
