2、herearealsosuchthingsastheobjectcom-posedoftheEiffelTowerandPlato’snose.AsIoverheardaphilosophersayingrecently,“Eithereverythingexistsornothingexists.”The“every-thingexists”peoplearesometimescalled“universalists.”Theyholdthatforanytwothingsthereisathirdthingcomposedofthetwo.Typicallytheya
3、lsoholdthatifathingpersiststhroughaperiodoftimethenthereisasecondthing,a“temporalpart”ofthefirst,whichexistsonlyduringthatperiod.Theworldconsists,then,ofallofthesumsofthesetemporalparts,sothat,asQuineoftenputsit,everymateriallyoccupiedspace-timeportionoftheworld,howeverdiscontinuousorgerr
