2、theidearelativity.Relativity,involvesconsideringhowaneventorseriesofeventswouldlooktooneobservergiventhatyouknowhowitlookstoanotherobserverwhomaybemovingwithrespecttothefirst.Thisiscalled"transforming"theobservationfromoneframetoanother,andrelativitytellsushowtodothat.Thus,
3、weareconcernedwiththewaysomethingseemstooneobserverrelativetohowitseemstoanother.GalileanRelativityContrarytopopularopinion,Einsteindidnotinventrelativity.Galileoprecededhim.Aristotlehadproposedthatmovingobjects(ontheEarth)hadanaturaltendencytoslowdownandstop.Thisisshownint

6、alileantransformationdoesnotaffectthetime.Thustwoobserversmovingwithrespecttoeachothercanstillagreeonthetime,andthusthedistancebetweentwoobjects,whichisthedifferenceintheirpositionsmeasuredatequaltimes,canbedefined.ThisallowedNewtontodescribeaninversesquarelawforgravity.But
