3、Letters.SealevelchangesareoneofthemostpronouncedeffectsofclimatechangeimpactsonEarthandareprimarilydrivenbywarmingoftheglobaloceanalongwithaddedwaterfrommeltingland-basedglaciers4andicesheets.Inadditiontotheseeffects,changesinoceansalinityalsocanaffecttheheightofthesea
4、,bychangingitsdensity5structurefromthesurfacetothebottomoftheocean.Theteamfoundthattherewasalong-term(1950-2008)patterninhalosteric(salinity-driven)sealevelchangesintheglobalocean,withsealevelincreasesoccurringinthePacificOceanandsealeveldecreasesintheAtlantic.Thesesal
5、inity-drivensealevelchangeshavenotbeenthoroughly6investigatedinpreviouslong-termestimatesofsealevelchange.Whenthescientistscontrastedtheseresultswithmodels,theteamfoundthatmodelsalsosimulatedthesebasin-scalepatterns,andthatthemagnitudeofthesechangeswassurprisinglylarge
6、,makingupabout25percentofthetotalsealevelchange."Bycontrastingtwolong-termestimatesofsealevelchangetosimulationsprovidedfromalargesuiteofclimatemodelsimulations,ourresultssuggestthatsalinityhasaprofoundeffectonregionalsealevelchange,"Duracksaid."Thisconclusionsuggestst
