1、METHOD8100POLYNUCLEARAROMATICHYDROCARBONS1.0SCOPEANDAPPLICATION1.1Method8100isusedtodeterminetheconcentrationofcertainpolynucleararomatichydrocarbons(PAH).Table1indicatescompoundsthatmaybedeterminedbythismethod.1.2Thepackedcolumngaschromatographicmethoddescribedherecannotadequatelyres

2、olvethefollowingfourpairsofcompounds:anthraceneandphenanthrene;chryseneandbenzo(a)anthracene;benzo(b)fluorantheneandbenzo(k)fluoranthene;anddibenzo(a,h)anthraceneandindeno(1,2,3-cd)pyrene.Theuseofacapillarycolumninsteadofthepackedcolumn,alsodescribedinthismethod,mayadequatelyresolveth

3、esePAHs.However,unlessthepurposeoftheanalysiscanbeservedbyreportingaquantitativesumforanunresolvedPAHpair,eitherliquidchromatography(Method8310)orgaschroma-tography/massspectroscopy(Method8270)shouldbeusedforthesecompounds.2.0SUMMARYOFMETHOD2.1Method8100providesgaschromatographiccondi

4、tionsforthedetectionofppblevelsofcertainpolynucleararomatichydrocarbons.Priortouseofthismethod,appropriatesampleextractiontechniquesmustbeused.Bothneatanddilutedorganicliquids(Method3580,WasteDilution)maybeanalyzedbydirectinjection.A2-to5-uLaliquotoftheextractisinjectedintoagaschromat

5、ograph(GC)usingthesolventflushtechnique,andcompoundsintheGCeffluentaredetectedbyaflameionizationdetector(FID).2.2Ifinterferencespreventproperdetectionoftheanalytesofinterest,themethodmayalsobeperformedonextractsthathaveundergonecleanupusingsilicagelcolumncleanup(Method3630).3.0INTERFE

6、RENCES3.1RefertoMethods3500,3600,and8000.3.2Solvents,reagents,glassware,andothersampleprocessinghardwaremayyielddiscreteartifactsand/orelevatedbaselinescausingmisinterpretationofgaschromatograms.Allofthesematerialsmustbedemonstratedtobefreefrominterferences,undertheconditionsoftheanal
