2、eeltube(SCFT),wasproposedInthecompositecolumn,structuralsteelwasembeddedinconcrete-filledsteeltube(CFT).Themechanicsofthecompositecolumnswereanalyzed,includingstresses,strainsofconcrete,steeltubeandstrueturalsteel,andbucklingofsteeltube.Theresultsshowthatthecolumnhashigher
3、bearingcapacityandexcellentductility.Theultimatebearingcapacityandduetilityofthecolumndecreasewiththeincreaseofslendernessratio.Thestrengthofconcretedependsonextremelythethicknessofsteeltubeandsizesofstructuralsteel.Thedistributionofstrengthofconcretevarieswithpositionincr
4、osssectionevenatthesameload.Basedonaboveanalysis,formulasforpredictingthestrengthofconcreteandultimatebearingcapacityofthecompositecolumnsaresuggested.Keywords:Confinedconcrete;Strength;StructuralsteelINTRODUCTIONCompositecolumnsconsistingofconcrete-fi1ledtubes(CFTS)havebe
5、comeincreasinglypopularinstructuralapplicationsintheworld,oftenusedinmoment-resistingframes.Thisismainlyduetotheirexcellentearthquake-resistantpropertiessuchashighstrength,highductilityandlargeenergyabsorptioncapacity.InChina,thiskindofcolumncanoffermanyotheradvantages,for
6、exampletheincreasedspeedofconstruction,positivesafetyaspects,andpossibleuseofsimplestandardizedcormections.Furthermore,thesteeltubeenclosestheconcretecoreandisusedasbothIongitudinalandlateralreinforcementaswel1asformworkduringcastingoftheconcrete.Forseismicexcitation,thecy
7、clicresponseofCFTSandtheirconnectionsprovidesfill1yhystereticloopswithsubstantialenergydissipation.Strengthandstiffnessdegradationdoesoccur,especiallyforCFTSinwhichtheConcretedominatesthebehavior.ExperimentalresearchonCFTS.Beamcolumnsbeenongoingworldwideformanydecades.Thev
