2、infalliblehumanmemory.Timealsotellsitsownstory.Sixtyyearsago,rationingmeantrathermorethanashortwaitbeforethearrivalofthelatestelectronicitem.Sixtyyearsago,BritainhadjustemergedfromawarofanintensityneverseenbeforeorsinceandhadslippedintotheshadowoftheKoreanconflict.
3、Sixtyyearsago,anew“ElizabethanEra”wasawaitedwithenthusiasmtingedwithuncertaintyaboutthechallengesaheadforthecountry.If,asGandhiasserted,“thebestwaytofindyourselfistoloseyourselfintheserviceofothers”,thenYourMajestymusthavefoundYourselfcountlesstimesoverthepastsixde
4、cades.?YouhavededicatedYourlifetoothers.?ThedailyexamplethatYouset,mirroredbyourcourageousarmedforcesofwhichYouareCommander-in-Chief,isextraordinary.YetperhapsYourMajesty’smostprofoundcontributionhasbeentothecontinuitythathasmadechangemanageable.Fortransformationis
5、inevitablyturbulent.IthasbeenYoursingularaccomplishment,Youruniquecapacity,toholdtogetherthatwhichcouldhavebeentornasunder.Youhavemovedwiththetimesandallowedthetimestomovearoundtherestofsociety.ThisisadifferentBritainfrom1952butnotonedetachedfromthen.Weareinsomanyw
6、aysamuchbigger,brighterandbetterUnitedKingdom.ThisisalandwheremenandwomentodayareequalunderthelawandwhereYourpeoplearerespected,regardlessofhowtheylive,howtheylookorhowtheylove.Thisisanationofmanyraces,faithsandcustoms,nowbeginningtobereflectedinParliament.Allthisp
7、rogresshasoccurredduringYourreign.Youhavebecome,tomanyofus,akaleidoscopeQueenofakaleidoscopecountryinakaleidoscopeCommonwealth.ThisgatheringisoneofmanydiverseeventsacrosstheseislandsintributetoYouandthisgreatanniversary.OuraffectionasanationwillrightlyembracetheDuk
8、eofEdinburghandothermembersofYourfamily.Thesewillbemomentsstrikingforthesincerityexpressedasmuchasforthesceneryencountered.Sixtyyearsofstability.
