3、viduallifeandtranquillity,thussuggestingthatTaoismplaysasecondaryrole.But,inreality,byopposingConfucianconformitywithnon-conformityandConfucianworldlinesswithatran-scendentalspirit,TaoismisaseverecriticofConfucianism.Initsdoc-trinesongovernment,oncultivatingandp

6、.Itisatoncethebeginningofallthingsandthewayinwhichallthingspursuetheircourse.WhenthisTaoispossessedbyindividualthings,itbecomesitscharacterorvirtue(te).3Theideallifefortheindividual,theidealorderforsociety,andtheidealtypeofgovernmentareallbasedonitandguidedbyit.
