3、alcarbonatesinthebeachrocks,Shuiweiling,Luhuitou,SanyaCity,HainanIsland.TheresultsindicatethatmicrobialcarbonatesoccurinShuiweilingbeachrocksandcementsrelatedtomicrobialactivitivesarecommon.Microbialcarbonatesweremainlydevelopedonthesurfacesofcoralskele-tons
4、andwithinthecoral(fragmentsandshivers)skeletalcavities,andrarelygrewininterspacesformedbycoralandotherbiologicaldetritus.Thegrowthmorphologiesofmicrobialcarbonatesarevarious,includingstromatoliticlamination,thincrusts,dome-like,andmicrobialites.Microbialcarb
5、on-atescommonlytrapfine-sizedbioclasts,containtubularfilaments,andshowlaminatedgrowthstriation.Microbialcarbonateswithinthecoralskeletalcavitiesaregenerallystromatoliticcone-shaped,witharandomgrowthdirectionalongthebearingoftrendofcavities,showingdistinctgro
6、wthlaminaeandrecognizablegrowthphases.Itisaspecialgrowthpatternofcryptmicrobialcarbonates.Microbialcementsoccurmainlyinshapeofneedlecement,calcifiedfilaments,microborings,andcalcifiedframboidalspheres.Theneedlecementisthemostcommontype.Thesemicrobialcementsi
7、ndicatethatmicrobialactivitiesandmicrobialcarbonatesplayedanimportantroleinbeachrockformationinwhichcarbonatesweredominantcomponentsandtheclimateoftropicaloceanmonsoonwasinfluen-tial.Suchmicrobialcarbonatesandmicrobialcementationhavenotbeenreportedherefrombe
8、achrocksalongthenorthernshorelinesoftheSouthChinaSea.Theresultssupportaclearmicrobialoriginforcertaincarbonatecementsinbeachrocks,confirmthatmicrobialcarbonatesareasignificantcontributortocarbon
