2、lternatetestformsonscoreincreasesduetopracticeeffects.AtestofGeneralMentalAbility(GMA)wasadministeredattime1withretestsadministeredtoparticipantsateither2week,1month,4monthor6monthintervals.Onthesubsequentadministration,halfoftheparticipantsweregivenanalternateformoftheGMAte

3、st.Theresultsindicatedthattherewassignificantpracticeeffectsfoundatthe2weekintervalonly.Asignificantsimpleeffectoftestformwasfoundatthe2weekinterval.Thefindingsarecongruentwithpreviousresearchthatpracticeeffectsexistandcanproduceheightenedscores.Thisresearchdiscountstheutili

4、tyofusingalternatetestformsforthepurposeofreducingpracticeeffects,ataretestinginterval1monthorlonger.TheEffectsofInterval14TheEffectsofIntervalTimeandAlternateformsonPracticeEffectsinSelectionProceduresMeasuresofgeneralmentalability(GMA)arecommonlyusedinallaspectsofAmericani

5、ndustry.Thesemeasuresareusedtoselecttheoptimalapplicantfromanoutsideapplicantpool,ortopromotefromwithin.EmployersusemeasuresofGMAintheselectionprocessbecauseitpredictsjobperformancemorestronglythananyothertrait(Schmidt&Hunter,2004).ThisisbecauselevelofGMAisrelatedtotheacquis

6、itionofjobknowledge,indicatingthatpeoplewhoscorehigheronmeasuresofGMAgainmorejobknowledge,andquicker.WhenapplicantsaregivenatestofGMA,theyareexpectedtosurpassasetcutoffscoreinordertobedeemedqualifiedfortheposition.Whenapplicantsreceiveascorebelowthecutoffpointtheyareoftenall
