3、tionscanberetrievedwithoutanyadvanceknowledgeofthenumberofmodes.Thenonlinearill-posedinversionisachievedbymeansofahybridmethodcombiningregularizationbydiscretization,variablehigher-orderB-splinefunctionsandatruncatedsingular-valuedecomposition.Themethodcanbeusedtohandledifferentlidardev
4、icesthatworkwithvariousvaluesandnumbersofwavelengths.Itisshown,tomyknowledgeforthe?rsttime,thatonlyoneextinctionandthreebackscattercoef?cientsaresuf?cientforthesolution.Moreover,measurementerrorsupto20%areallowed.Thisresultcouldbeachievedbyajudiciousfusionofdifferentpropertiesofthreesui
