2、essleadership,oneaspectofwhichisdealtwithinthepresentpaper.Wehearagreatdealaboutconcentrationofcontrol,separationofownershipandcontrol,controlbybankingandotherfinancialinterests,andsoon.Oneofthemoststrikingcharacteristicsofthewritingsinthisfieldisthevaguenessthatsurround
3、sthefrequentlyverylooseuseoftheword"control."Surprisinglylittlehasbeensaidaboutthecontentandnatureofcontrol(inrelationtocorporateactivities),andlittle,ifany,attempthasbeenmadetodistinguishbetweenthepossessionofpower,ontheonehand,andtheexerciseofcontrolarisingfromtheposse
4、ssionofpower,ontheother.Norhastherebeenanysystematicefforttorelatethecontrolconceptsimpliedinvariousstudiesofcorporateorganizationtotheactivecontrolfunctionoftheentrepreneurwhichissupposedlynecessarytotheefficientworkingofoureconomicsystem.Ishallattemptinthispapertodispe
5、lsomeoftheambiguitynowsur-roundingdiscussionsofcorporatecontrol.Ipropose,inparticular,toex-aminethepowerpossessedbyfinancialgroupsandtheextenttowhichthispoweristranslatedintotheexerciseofanactualandactivecontrolovertheproductiveprocess.Therehasbeensomebrieftreatmentofthe
