4、mingsandtoreplaceitwithChristianity.Asthechildrengrewtoadulthoodmanyofthemhadlostboththeirfamiliesandtheirculture.Theywereemployedasdomesticservantsoroncattlestationsbutwerepaidonlywithfoodandclothesorwithwagesthatwereonlyafractionofthosepaidtowhiteworkers.YoungAboriginalwomenwerecontinuallyat
5、riskofrapeonthereserves,institutions,andintheirplacesofemployment.Therewasamajorcontradictionunderlyingtheofficialrelationshipof“Assimiliation”.Whilstitofficiallymeantthatbothpeopleswouldbecomeasone,withtheAboriginalpeoplemergingintothelargerAustraliansocial,inpractice,assimiliationwasaccompan
6、iedbysegregation.wereexcludedfromthesocial,thepoliticalandtheworkinglifeofmainstreamAustralians.Theyhadunequalconditionsofentryintopublichouses,swimmingpoolsandcinemasandwereexcludedfrommainstreameducationandhealthservices.Thywerealsoexcludedfrommanyformsofemploymentandfromcitizenship:Aborigin
