5、y-apatite(HA)-coatedtitaniumanditsalloys,areamongthemostpromisingimplantmaterialsfororthopedicanddentalapplications.However,prob-lemssuchaslowbondstrengthbetweenthecoatingandthesubstrateandnonuniformityacrossthethick-nessofthecoatingareoftenencounteredwiththesecoatings[1].Recently,i
6、thasbeenreportedthatchemicallytreatedtitaniumcaninducebone-likeapatiteforma-tioninvitroandinvivo[2–4],whichmeans17thattitaniumanditsalloyshavepotentialbioactivity.TreatmentwithaNaOHsolutionproducesasodiumtitanategellayerontitaniumsurface.Thegellayerhastheabilitytoinduceformationofbo
7、ne-likeapatiteduringimmersinginsimulatedbodyfluid(SBF)and,thus,isconsideredbioactive.Thegellayercaninitiateapatitenucleationonitself.Onceapatitenucleationoccurs,itspontaneouslygrowsbytakingcalciumandphosphateionsfromthesur-roundingenvironment.Thequalitativeobservationofnucleationand
