3、ucturerule,hecan’tundertakecorrectcommunication,butifonehasnoculturalknowledge,hecan’ttrulymakemeaningfulcommunication.Forquitealongtime,EnglishlanguageteachinginChinahasbeenbasedonstructuralism,whichconsidersalanguageasaclosedsystemandemphasizestheperc

4、eptionandrecognitionoftheinternallinguisticmechanisminteachingwhichenableslearnerstojudgegrammaticalcorrectnessofsentences.However,duringtheteachingprocess,itisfoundthatwithagoodknowledgeofphonemic,syntacticandsemanticrulesofthetargetlanguage,thereisnod

5、oubtthatitispossibletocreatesentenceswithoutgrammaticalorlexicalmistakes.Butwhencommunicatingwithothers,onestillisincapableofcommunicatingsuccessfullyduetotheirfailuretocomprehendsociolinguisticrules.ManyexperiencesandexperimentsshowthatChineselearnerso

6、fEnglishhavedifficultyincommunicationdespiteagoodcommandofthelanguageknowledge.InthenewEnglishcurriculumstandard,theculturalunderstanding,culturalawarenessandcommunicativecompetencehasbeenprescribedforthefirsttime.TheEnglishteachersinmiddleschoolshouldr
