3、’ttrulymakemeaningfulcommunication.Forquitealongtime,EnglishlanguageteachinginChinahasbeenbasedonstructuralism,whichconsidersalanguageasaclosedsystemandemphasizestheperceptionandrecognitionoftheinternallinguisticmechanisminteachingwhichenableslearnerstojudgegrammaticalcorrectnessofsentences.How

4、ever,duringtheteachingprocess,itisfoundthatwithagoodknowledgeofphonemic,syntacticandsemanticrulesofthetargetlanguage,thereisnodoubtthatitispossibletocreatesentenceswithoutgrammaticalorlexicalmistakes.Butwhencommunicatingwithothers,onestillisincapableofcommunicatingsuccessfullyduetotheirfailuret

5、ocomprehendsociolinguisticrules.ManyexperiencesandexperimentsshowthatChineselearnersofEnglishhavedifficultyincommunicationdespiteagoodcommandofthelanguageknowledge.InthenewEnglishcurriculumstandard,theculturalunderstanding,culturalawarenessandcommunicativecompetencehasbeenprescribedforthefirstt
