3、isonlyaimedatestablishingarelationshipbetweenthecompositionandhardnesscharacteristicsofseveralmetalsamples.ThemetalsamplesaretestedusingtheRockwellBscaleandthematerialcompositionsarecomparedwiththeresultinghardnessvalues.Ferrousmaterialssuchascastironsands
4、teelswerefoundtobegenerallyharderthannon-ferrousmaterialssuchasaluminumalloys,copperalloys,andtitanium.Overall,themetalswerehardenedbyincreasedamountsofalloyingmaterials.IntroductionInthecontextofmaterialscience,hardnessisamechanicalpropertywhichallowsamat
5、erialtoresist“l(fā)ocalizedplasticdeformation”.[1]ThehardnessofamaterialiscommonlyquantifiedusingRockwell,Brinell,andVickersmethods.Ingeneral,thesemethodsdefinethehardnessofamaterialintermsoftheamountofdeformationproducedbyaloadedindenterthatisharderthanthetes
6、tspecimen.Hardnesstestingproducesrelativehardnessvaluessincedifferentindentersandloadingmethodscreateuniqueindentationsonthesametestspecimen.Engineeringmaterialsexhibitawiderangeofhardnessvaluesthatdependontheircomposition,microstructure,andprocessingmetho
