3、ofapplicationsoruserswhicharetobeplacedinaspecificDiffServclassofservice.Inthispaper,welookattheissuesthatariseinthedefinition,deploymentandmanagementofpoliciesrelatedtoQoSinanIPnetwork.ThepaperprovidesanoverviewoftherequirementsforQoSpolicies,thealternatepolicyarchitecturest
4、hatcanbedeployedinanetwork,thedifferentprotocolsthatcanbeusedtoexchangepolicyinformation,andtheexchangeofpolicyinformationamongdifferentadministrativedomains.WeprovideacoverageofthecurrentissuesbeingexaminedinIETFandotherstandardbodies,aswellasissuesexploredinpolicyrelatedres
5、earchongoingatdifferentuniversitiesandresearchlabs.1.IntroductionTheInternetistransitioningfromabest-effortservicemodelwherealltransmissionsareconsideredequalandnodeliveryguaranteesaremade,toonethatcanprovidepredictableanddifferentservicelevelsforspecificQualityofServicerequi
6、rements.Thistransitionisdrivenasmuchbyqualitativelydiverserequirementsofemergingapplications,asbythemarketpushforservicedifferentiation.Variousmechanismsandprotocolsproposedforintegratedanddifferentiatedservicesseektoprovideinter-operable,customizablesolutionsthatmaybedeploye
