3、gnofcommunicationsystemsarethecharacteristicsofthephysicalchannelsthroughwhichtheinformationistransmitted.Thecharacteristicsofthechannelgenerallyaffectthedesignofthebasicbuildingblocksofthecommunicationsystems.Below,wedescribetheelementsofacommunicationsystemandtheirfunctions.1-1Elements

5、ters.Inadigitalcommunication,themessagesproducedbythesourceareconvertedintoasequenceofbinarydigits.Ideally,weshouldliketorepresentthesourceoutput(message)byasfewbinarydigitsaspossible.Inotherwords,weseekanefficientrepresentationofthesourceoutputthatresultsinlittleornoredundancy.Theproces
6、sofefficientlyconvertingtheoutputofeitherananalogordigitalsourceintoasequenceofbinarydigitsiscalledsourceencodingordatacompression.Thesequenceofbinarydigitsfromthesourceencoder,whichwecalltheinformationsequence,ispassedtothechannelencoder.Thepurposeofthechannelencoderistointroduce,inacon
7、trolledmanner,someredundancyinthebinaryinformationsequencethatcanbeusedatthereceivertoovercometheeffectsofnoiseandinterferenceencounteredinthetransmissionofthesignalthroughthechannel.Thus,theadded63redundancyservestoincreasethereliabilityofthereceiveddataandimprovesthefid
