3、usedsocialnetworkstoorganizeblooddrivesandamassiveinterfaithbookofcondolence.InColombia,anunemployedengineerbroughttogethermorethan12millionpeoplein190citiesaroundtheworldtodemonstrateagainsttheFARCterroristmovement.Theprotestswerethelargestanti-terroristdemonstrationsin
4、history.Intheweeksthatfollowed,theFARCsawmoredemobilizationsanddesertionsthanithadduringadecadeofmilitaryaction.AndinMexico,asingleemailfromaprivatecitizenwhowasfedupwithdrug-relatedviolencesnowballedintohugedemonstrationsinallofthecountry's32states.InMexicoCityalone,150
5、,000peopletooktothestreetsinprotest.Theinternetcanhelphumanitypushbackagainstthosewhopromoteviolenceandextremism.InIran,Moldova,andmanyothercountries,onlineorganizinghasbeenacriticaltoolforadvancingdemocracy,andenablingcitizenstoprotestsuspiciouselectionresults.Eveninest
6、ablisheddemocraciesliketheUnitedStates,we'veseenthepowerofthesetoolstochangehistory.Someofyoumaystillrememberthe2008presidentialelection...Thefreedomtoconnecttothesetechnologiescanhelptransformsocieties,butitisalsocriticallyimportanttoindividuals.Irecentlyheardthestoryof
7、adoctorwhohadbeentryingdesperatelytodiagnosehisdaughter'sraremedicalcondition.Afterconsultingwithtwodozenspecialists,hestilldidn'thaveananswer.Hefinallyidentifiedthecondition-andacure-byusinganinternetsearchengine.That'soneofthereasonswhyunfetteredaccesstosearchenginetec
