2、onsensusor,onthecontrary,theyareratherconflicting.Withoutbeinginterestedhereandnowinthecompetitionoftheconflictualistandconsensualistparadigmswithinthesociologicapproach(oneoftheparadigmaticdilemmasofthesociologystatedbyGiddens),inthispresentationweinte
3、ndtorevealtowhatextentinRomaniansocietysocialrelationsareconflicting,respectively,consensual.TheanalysisconcentratesonRomaniawhilealsoemployingacomparisontoEuropeancountries.Thedataoriginatefromnationalandinternationalsurveys.TheanalysisshowsthatRomania
4、npopulationperceivesparticularlytheexistenceofverticalconflictsinsocietylikethosebetweenthepoorandtherichandthosebetweenemployeesandmanagers.Thesefindingsdonotjustifypredictionsoftheunavoidabilityofmajoropensocialconflicts,butdrawtheattentiontowardsthec
5、haracteristicsofthesociallife.Theactionsrequiredinsuchinstancesshouldbeaimedatsmoothingtheconflictingstatesinthesociety.Suchactionsincludetargetedpublicpoliciesaswellasacertainbehaviourofthesocialactorsandpopulationaimingtoenhanceconsensus,ratherthandis
6、sensus.1.PerceptionsofsocialconflictsinRomania.Theexistenceofsocialconflictsinasocietyrevealsnegativeaspectsofthatsocietyand,therefore,ofthequalityoflifeofthepopulation.Thehigherthelevelofindicatorsexpressingtheexistenceofsocialconflicts,theweakerarethe
7、socialcohesion,solidarityandinclusion.Onthecontrary,thelowvaluesorthelackofconflictsareassociatedwithhighvaluesofthesocialcohesion,solidarityandinclusion,withpositiveeffectsonthequalityoflifeofthepopulation.Inanattempttogiveadefinition,ascomprehensiveas
