7、butthegeneralshapeofthenet-forcevs.spacingcurveremainsthesame—i.e.,thereisalwaysatensileorcohesivelimit,adecreaseinnetforceatlargespacing,andarapidincreasewithoutlimitatsmallspacings.Applicationofexternalcompressionforceswillreducetheinter-atomicspacing(i.e.,causet
