3、curityofthetownwithin.ThepaperdrawsonmaterialgatheredaspartofaEuropeanInterregIIIcnetworkproject–‘ARCHWAY’.Walledtownsandrelatedmonumentsrepresentnearly20%ofthe890-strong2009worldheritagelistandhalfthe‘ARCHWAY’townshaveworldheritagestatusoraspirations.Tome
4、ettheeconomicandurbanplanningchallenges,walledtownshavedevelopedarangeofoptionsforsuccessin,orforsurviving,tourism.ExamplesfromacrossEuropeandbeyondarecriticallyappraisedinthelightoftheliteratureofhistoricandheritagetowntourism.Ashistorictownswithobvioussi
