3、onavirus(2).Cellreceptor(s)forOC43coronavirushavenotbeenidentified.However,itisofpathologicsignificancethatOC43virussharesDNAsequencehomologywiththetwocoronavirusisolates,SKandSD,fromthebrainofpatientswithmultiplesclerosis(MS)(3).ProbingMSandcontrolbrainwithprobesspecif
4、icforhuman,murine,porcineandbovinecoronavirusbyinsituhybridizationresultedinthedetectionofcoronavirusRNAin12of22MSbrainsamples;fiveofwhichwerepositiveForpersonaluseonly.withtheOC43probe(4).Astudyofvirus-ligandinteractionsofOC43withhumanrhabdomyosarcoma(RD)cells,whichare
5、highlysusceptibletovirusinfection,wasundertakentoidentifypossiblecellreceptors.Thebindingofviruscollectedfromthesupernatantofinfectedcellstocellproteinsimmobilizedonnitrocellulosepaperwasusedtoscreenforvirus-ligandinteractions.Thenextstepwastheidentificationordevelopmen
6、tofantibodiestoeachoftheligands,andtotesttheirabilitytoblockadereceptoractivitybyculturinginfectedcellsinmediumcontainingtheligandantibodiesandmeasuringtheeffectonvirusyield.ThepreliminaryexperimentsreportedhererevealaninterestingobservationofstrongaffinityofOC43virusfo
