5、issiblegastroenteritisvirushaveresultedinimportantchangesinhostcelltropism.INTRODUCTIONTransmissiblegastroenteritisvirus(TGEV)wasfirstisolatedbyDoyleandHutchings(1946).Itisanenteropathogeniccoronaviruswhichreplicatesinvillusepithelialcellsofthesmallintestine.Villusenterocytesbecomein-fected,degenera
6、teanddesquamatewhichresultsinatrophyofvilliandinseverewaterydiarrhoea.TGEVcaninducediarrhoeainswineofallageswithamortalityofnear100%inpigletsuntiltheageof2weeks(HooperandHaelterman,1969).Between12and24%ofsowspossessedseroneutralizing(SN)antibodiesagainstTGEVinserologicalsurveyscarriedoutamongtheBelg
