2、bearsafundamentalroleinthelawsanddecisionsofyourownage.Parliamenthassurvivedasanunshakablecornerstoneofourconstitutionandourwayoflife.HistorylinksmonarchsandParliament,aconnectingthreadfromoneperiodtothenext.So,inanerawhentheregular,worthyrhythmoflifeislesseye-catch
3、ingthandoingsomethingextraordinary,IamreassuredthatIammerelythesecondSovereigntocelebrateaDiamondJubilee.Astoday,itwasmyprivilegetoaddressyouduringmySilverandGoldenJubilees.Manyofyouwerepresenttenyearsagoandsomeofyouwillrecalltheoccasionin1977.SincemyAccession,Ihave
4、beenaregularvisitortothePalaceofWestminsterand,atthelastcount,havehadthepleasurabledutyoftreatingwithtwelvePrimeMinisters.Oversuchaperiod,onecanobservethattheexperienceofvenerableoldagecanbeamightyguidebutnotaprerequisiteforsuccessinpublicoffice.Iamthereforeveryplea
5、sedtobeaddressingmanyyoungerParliamentariansandalsothosebringingsuchawiderangeofbackgroundandexperiencetoyourvital,nationalwork.DuringtheseyearsasyourQueen,thesupportofmyfamilyhas,acrossthegenerations,beenbeyondmeasure.PrincePhilipis,Ibelieve,well-knownfordecliningc
6、omplimentsofanykind.Butthroughouthehasbeenaconstantstrengthandguide.HeandIareveryproudandgratefulthatThePrinceofWalesandothermembersofourfamilyaretravellingonmybehalfinthisDiamondJubileeyeartovisitalltheCommonwealthRealmsandanumberofotherCommonwealthcountries.Theseo
7、verseastoursareareminderofourcloseaffinitywiththeCommonwealth,encompassingaboutone-thirdoftheworld’spopulation.MyownassociationwiththeCommonwealthhastaughtmethatthemostimportantcontactbetweennationsisusuallycontactbetweenitspeoples.Anorganizationdedicatedtocertainva
