4、themostcontentiousissuesforcitydrivers.Carparkspacescanbehardtofindandexpensivetouse.Theremaybequeuestogetintothemostconvenientcarparkswhichrequiredriverstomoveontoalternativecarparks.Somecitycentretradersregardthelackofsuitablecarparkingasasignificantreasonf
5、orshopperstopreferoutoftownshoppingcentres.InNewHavenConnecticut,Gov.Rowlandataceremonycelebratingtherenovationofthecity’slargestcarparkin2002declared:‘ifyoudon’thaveparking,nothingelseworks’.Carparkhunting,thecirculationofdriverslookingforaparkingspace,canbe
6、amajorcontributiontocitycentrecongestion.Theproportionofcarssearchingforaspacewasfoundtobe26%whensurveyedinManhattanin2006,whileinBrooklynitwas45%.Thesituationisnotnew.In1927,asimilarsurveyinDetroitfoundthefigurestobe19%and34%inseparatelocations.Thislongstand
7、ingproblemmayatlastbeassistedbytechnology.WhileiPhoneuserscannownotifyeachotherasspacesbecomeavailable,trafficplannerscannowtakeadvantageofrecentdevelopmentsintrafficmodelling,whichdemonstratethatcarparkaccesscanbeincludedinroadtrafficsimulationmodelstosuppor
