5、onofrecombinantproteinsinBacillussubtilis1.IntroductionGram-positivebacteriaarewellknownfortheircontributionstoagricultural,medicalandfoodbiotechnologyandfortheproductionofrecombinantproteins.Amongthem,Bacillussubtilishasbeendevelopedasanattractivehostbecau
6、seofseveralreasons:(i)Itisnon-pathogenicandisconsideredasaGRASorganism(generallyregardedassafe);(ii)ithasnosignificantbiasincodonusage;(iii)itiscapableofsecretingfunctionalextracellularproteinsdirectlyintotheculturemedium(atpresent,about60%ofthecommercially
7、availableenzymesareproducedbyBacillusspecies);(iv)alargebodyofinformationconcerningtranscription,translation,proteinfoldingandsecretionmechanisms,geneticmanipulationandlarge-scalefermentationhasbeenacquired.ButtherearealsotwoobstaclesreducingtheuseofB.subti
