3、SixBCVsisolatedinfeces,intestinalcontentortrachealexudateofthecowswereanalyzedfortheirantigenicproper-tiesbycrossvirusneutralization(VN)tests.Theisolatesweredividedintotwogroups,oneofwhichhadcloselyrelatedantigenicitywiththereferenceMebusandKakegawastrainsofBCV,andanotherwhichshowedsigni?cant
4、differencesinVNantibodytitersfromthereferencestrains.Twoisolatesinthelattergroup,whichwerefromtheentericandrespiratorytractsofthesamecows,respec-tively,weredistinguishedfromeachotherbyELISAusingmonoclonalantibod-iesagainsttheKakegawastrain.Theisolatesshowedvarioushemagglutinationandreceptorde
5、stroyingenzymetitersagainstchickenormouseerythrocytes.Bovinecoronavirus(BCV)belongstoantigenicgroup2oftheCoronaviridae,andpossessesfourmajorstructuralproteins,thenucleocapsidproteinN,theintegralmembraneglycoprotein(gp)M,thehemagglutinin-esterasegpHEandthespikegpS[4].ItisknownthatbothHEandSgp
6、sareinvolvedinhemagglutination(HA)activity.TheHEgpisalesspotenthemagglutininthantheSgp,asitonlyagglutinateserythrocytesfrommiceandratsandnotthosefromadultchickens.TheHEgpalsoexhibitsreceptordestroyingenzyme(RDE)activity[4].BCVisknownasamajorcausativeagentofcalfdiarrhea[3,4,10,15,24,25]andwint
