2、eryoneplaysbythesamerules.That’suptous.Today,Iwanttotalktoyouabouttheideathateveryoneinthiscountryshoulddotheirfairshare.Now,ifthiswereaperfectworld,we’dhaveunlimitedresources.Noonewouldeverhavetopayanytaxes,andwecouldspendasmuchaswewanted.Butweliveintherealw
3、orld.Wedonothaveunlimitedresources.Wehaveadeficitthatneedstobepaiddown.Andwealsohavetopayforinvestmentsthatwillhelpoureconomygrowandkeepourcountrysafe,education,researchandtechnology,astrongmilitary,andretirementprogramslikeMedicareandSocialSecurity.Thatmeans
4、wehavetomakechoices.Whenitcomestopayingdownthedeficitandinvestinginourfuture,shouldweaskmiddleclassAmericanstopayevenmoreatatimewhentheirbudgetsarealreadystretchedtothebreakingpoint.OrshouldweasksomeofthewealthiestAmericanstopaytheirfairshare?That’sthechoice.
5、Overthelastdecade,we’vespenthundredsofbillionsofdollarsonwhatwassupposedtobeatemporarytaxcutforthewealthiesttwopercentofAmericans.Nowwe’rescheduledtospendalmostatrillionmore.Today,thewealthiestAmericansarepayingtaxesatoneofthelowestratesin50years.WarrenBuffet
6、tispayingalowerratethanhissecretary.Meanwhile,overthelast30years,thetaxratesformiddleclassfamilieshavebarelybudged.That’snotfair.Itdoesnotmakeanysense.DowewannakeepgivingtaxbreakstothewealthiestAmericanslikeme,orWarrenBuffett,orBillGates-peoplewhodonotneedthe
7、mandneveraskedforthem?Ordowewanttokeepinvestinginthingsthatwillgrowoureconomyandkeepussecure?Becausewenotaffordtodoboth.Now,somepeoplecallthisclasswarfare.ButIthinkaskingabillionairetopayatleastthesametaxrateashissecretaryisjustcommonsense.Wedonotenvysuccessi
