3、entshaveputpressureongovernmentstorelaxrestrictionsonforeignentrants.Oneoftheoriginalmotivationsfortheexistenceofownershipsharingconditionswasthebeliefthatlocalparticipationinforeigninvestmentprojectsrevealstheirproprietarytechnologyandthusbenefitsdomesticfirmsbyfacilitatingtechnologydiffusion(s
4、eeBeamish,1988andBlomstr?mandSj?holm,1999).Aswritingacontractspecifyingallaspectsoftherightstouseintangibleassetsisdifficult,ifnotimpossible,jointdomesticandforeignownershipofaninvestmentprojectismorelikelytoleadtoknowledgedissipation.Alocalpartnermayusetheknowledgeacquiredfromtheforeigninvestor
5、initsotheroperationsnotinvolvingtheforeignshareholdersorbeinginchargeofhiringpolicies,asisoftenthecase,thelocalpartnermayhavelessincentivetolimitemployeeturnover.3Thisproblemisreducedwhenthemultinationalisthesoleownerofitsaffiliate.4Asaconsequence,multinationalsmaybemorelikelytotransfersophistic
