2、senteringtheWTOandsuccessfullybiddingfortheOlympicgames2008,and“withthedevelopmentofbusinesstransactionsaroundtheworld,beingcapableofspeakingfluentlyhasemergedrecentlyasoneofthebasicrequirementsofmodernpeopleintheglobalvillage.”[2]However,foralongtime,“thenatureofthelanguageasame
3、ansofcommunicationwasignoredinteachingandlearningmethodology.Theemphasiswasonlyputonlinguisticandformswithoutconsiderationforthenatureoflanguage.”[3]Nowadays,inmiddleschool,theprocessoforalEnglishteachingusuallyconsistsofthefollowingsteps:first,theteachergivesthesetting;next,thet
4、eacherpresentsthecommonsentencestructures;then,thestudentspractisepassively.Duringthewholeprocess,thestudentsonlymakeconversationsfollowingtheteachingmaterialsmechanicallyandabsorbnewknowledgepassively,anditisreallyhardfortheteachertobeclearaboutifthestudentshavereallymasteredthe
5、newknowledgeandiftheycancommunicatewitheachotherfluently.Therefore,newteachingapproachesneedconsidering.“ThecommunicativelanguageteachingisaninnovationinEnglishlanguageteaching.Itrevealsthesocialfunctionoflanguageandtheessenceandgoalofforeignlanguageteaching,anditalwaysregardsthe
6、developmentofcommunicativeabilityasthecoreofforeignlanguageteaching.”[4]Asanewteachingapproach,theCommunicativeTeachingApproachwasintroducedinChinasince1990s.Now,ithasbecomeoneofthemainteachingapproachesinthefieldofforeignlanguageteachinginourcountry.Thispaperwillmakeadiscussiono
7、fCommunicativeApproachanditsapplicationinteachingspokenEnglishinmiddleschools.2.AnoverviewofCommunicativeApproachCommunicativeApproachisapopularteachingapproachintoday’sChina.Manylinguistsareexploringitinordertoimprovethelearners’English.ThischapterservesasanintroductionofCommuni
