2、ices,therearestillsomechallengesthatcannotbeaccommodatedevenby4G,suchasthespectrumcrisisandhighenergyconsumption.Wirelesssystemdesignershavebeenfacingthecontinuouslyincreasingdemandforhighdataratesandmobilityrequiredbynewwirelessapplicationsandthereforehavestartedresearchonfifthgenerat
3、ionwirelesssystemsthatareexpectedtobedeployedbeyond2020.Inthisarticle,weproposeapotentialcellulararchitecturethatseparatesindoorandoutdoorscenarios,anddiscussvariouspromisingtechnologiesfor5Gwirelesscommunicationsystems,suchasmassiveMIMO,energy-efficientcommunications,cognitiveradionet
4、works,andvisiblelightcommunications.Futurechallengesfacingthesepotentialtechnologiesarealsodiscussed.INTRODUCTIONTheinnovativeandeffectiveuseofinformationandcommunicationtechnologies(ICT)isbecomingincreasinglyimportanttoimprovetheeconomyoftheworld[1].Wirelesscommunicationnetworksareper
5、hapsthemostcriticalelementintheglobalICTstrategy,underpinningmanyotherindustries.Itisoneofthefastestgrowingandmostdynamicsectorsintheworld.TheEuropeanMobileObservatory(EMO)reportedthatthemobilecommunicationsectorhadtotalrevenueof€174billionin2010,therebybypassingtheaerospaceandpharmace
6、uticalsectors[2].Thedevelopmentofwirelesstechnologieshasgreatlyimprovedpeople’sabilitytocommunicateandliveinbothbusinessoperationsandsocialfunctions.Thephenomenalsuccessofwirelessmobilecommunicationsismirroredbyarapidpaceoftechnologyinnovation.Fromthesecondgeneration(2G)mobilecommunica
