4、hristiansandgainafootholdinchina.Hearrayedstrikingclock,tripleprism,armillarysphere(自鳴鐘、三棱鏡、渾天儀)andhungthemapoftheworldinhisabodetoattractvisitors.TheworldmapshatteredtheChinese’sdie-hardbeliefthatChinawasthecenterofthewholeworld.Lateron,XueGuangqi(徐光啟)wrote《山海輿地圖經(jīng)解》,interpretingthemapinChinesel
5、anguage,whichbecamethefirstbookondisseminatingwesternscientificknowledge.OnSeptember22,1596MatteoRiccisuccessfullyforecastedasolareclipse(日食)inChina,andquicklybecamewell-known.MatteoRicci,workingtogetherwithXuGuangqi,translatedthefirstsixvolumesofEuclid’sElements(歐幾里得《幾何原本》前六卷)in1607.Hewasalsoth
6、efirsttotranslatesomeoftheFourBooksintoLatin,beingthefirsttointroduceChineseclassicsintothewesternworld.&&ThecomingofMatteoRiccikindledtheenthusiasmofChinesescholarstolearnwesternknowledge.AndfromthenonChinesescholarsbecameopen-mindedanddevelopedaninterestinlearningfromthewesterncountries,whicha
