4、hristiansandgainafootholdinchina.Hearrayedstrikingclock,tripleprism,armillarysphere(自鳴鐘、三棱鏡、渾天儀)andhungthemapoftheworldinhisabodetoattractvisitors.TheworldmapshatteredtheChinese’sdie-hardbeliefthatChinawasthecenterofthewholeworld.Lateron,XueGuangqi(徐光啟)wrote《山海輿地圖經(jīng)解》，interpretingthemapinChinesel
5、anguage,whichbecamethefirstbookondisseminatingwesternscientificknowledge.OnSeptember22,1596MatteoRiccisuccessfullyforecastedasolareclipse(日食）inChina,andquicklybecamewell-known.MatteoRicci,workingtogetherwithXuGuangqi,translatedthefirstsixvolumesofEuclid’sElements（歐幾里得《幾何原本》前六卷）in1607.Hewasalsoth
6、efirsttotranslatesomeoftheFourBooksintoLatin,beingthefirsttointroduceChineseclassicsintothewesternworld.&&ThecomingofMatteoRiccikindledtheenthusiasmofChinesescholarstolearnwesternknowledge.AndfromthenonChinesescholarsbecameopen-mindedanddevelopedaninterestinlearningfromthewesterncountries,whicha
