4、velopmentsinthesubject,particularlywithregardtotherigorousdemonstrationofuniversallawsforeigenvaluespacingdistributionsofWignermatri-ces(seetherecentsurvey[Gu2009b]).Thiscoursedoesnotdirectlydiscusstheselaws,butinsteadfocusesonmorefoundationaltopicsinrandommatrixtheoryupo
5、nwhichthemostrecentworkhasbeenbased.Forinstance,the rstpartofthecourseisdevotedtobasicprobabilistictoolssuchasconcentrationofmeasureandthecentrallimittheorem,whicharethenusedtoestablishbasicresultsinran-dommatrixtheory,suchastheWignersemicirclelawonthebulkdistributionofei
6、genvaluesofaWignerrandommatrix,orthecir-cularlawonthedistributionofeigenvaluesofaniidmatrix.Otherfundamentalmethods,suchasfreeprobability,thetheoryofdeter-minantalprocesses,andthemethodofresolvents,arealsocoveredinthecourse.ThistextbeginsinChapter1withareviewoftheaspectso
