5、eof71non—Englishmajors(41and30intermediateEnglishlevelstudentsintwointactclassesrespectivelyofthesamecollege).AllreadingtasksandvocabularytestsaredevelopedbytheauthorwithreferencetopreviousstudiesonincidentalvocabularyacquisitionsuchasHulstijn(1992),Watanabe(1997
6、),Laufer&Hulstijn)(2001).Theauthorwillcollectthefirst—handdatafromsubjectsatthesametimeinordertoensurethereliabilityandvalidityofvocabularytests.Ontheotherhand,theparticipantsinthisempiricalstudyarerequiredtoperformdifferentreadingtaskswithoutbeingtoldinadvanceth
7、attheywillbetestedafterwardsontheirrecallofthosenewwords’meanings.Itistoensurethatthesubjectsacquirenovelvocabularyincidentallythroughreading.TheStatisticalPackagefortheSocialScience(sess,version13.0)isemployedtohelpanalyzetherawdataandgeneratestatisticalinformat
