3、hatteachers’beliefsappeartobeinstrumentalinshapinghowteachersinterpretwhat20esonintheirclassroom.Andnumerousresearchesonteachers’beliefshavebeenpublishedtodate,whichlargelyfocusonin-serviceEFLteachers.Sofar,studiesonDre-serviceEFLteachers’beliefsarestillinshor
4、tage.Researcheshaveindicatedthatadequatepreparationofpre-.serviceEFLteachersdependsoninsightintothebeliefsthatpre.serviceEFLteacherscarrytotheclassroom.Itissuggestedthatpre—serviceEFLteachershaven’tformedclearlydefinedbeliefsandsomebeliefsaredetrimentaltotheir
5、learningandteaching.Anotherissueisaboutwhetherteachereducationcoursesoreducationalpracticeshaveimpactonteacherbeliefs.Therefore,thisstudycentersonpre—serviceEFLteachers’beliefs,aimingtoexplorewhetherthereareanydifferencesinteachers’beliefsamongthosepre—service
6、EFLteachersindifferentgrades.Thepurposeofthisresearchisthree—fold:gettinganoverallpictureofpre—serviceEFLteachers’generalviewofbeliefs;addressingdifferencesbetweentheseniorstudents,beliefswhohaveexperiencedtheeducationalpracticesandthejuniorstudentswhohaven’t;
7、comparingpre—serviceteachers’beliefsbetweenthenormaluniversityandthecomprehensiveuniversity.Atotalof445undergraduatesparticipateinthisstudy;theyareallEnglishmajorsfromanormaluniversity(n2379;149juniorstudents.230seniorstudents)andfromacomprehensiveuniversity(n
8、266;seniorstudents)inJiangxiprovince.Thedatacollectionincludessemi—structuredinterviewsandquestionnaires.Majorfindingsofthisstudyincludethatpre—serviceteachers’beliefsareopen—orien
