6、rocessofEnglishleaning,themainproblemliesinwords’memorization.NewseniorhighschoolEnglishcourserequirestudenttomasterabout5000words.Increasingstudents’vocabularysizeisoneofthemostdirectandeffectivewaystoimprovetheirothertechniques.Theincreasedvocabularysizewi
7、llhelpimprovestudents’readingspeed,helpthemgainmoreconfidenceinlisteningandspeakingandsoon.Therefore,effectiveaccumulationofwordsbecomesveryimportantinEnglishlearning.Seniorhighschoolstudentsoftenfacedsuchproblem:EnglishwordshaveseveralChinesemeaning,theydid
8、notknowwhichonetochose.“Polyisacommonfeaturepeculiartoallnaturallanguages.ThisisparticularlytrueofhighlydevelopedlanguageslikeEnglish.”(ZhangWeiyou,1995:95).Inotherwords,manyEnglishwordsarepolys
